Play Freeze or Sneeze

This page is the permanent home of whatever build is current. Right now that is an Android playtest build.

Current build: playtest Still in development

Android build available

Playable start to finish. Still being tuned, and not yet on a store.

An APK, not a store install. Android will ask you to confirm before installing it. Instructions are below.

Installing it

  1. Download the file on the Android device you want to play on.
  2. Open it. Android will say the file came from outside the Play Store.
  3. Allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps, just this once.
  4. Install, then open Freeze or Sneeze.
  5. Turn the permission back off afterwards if you would rather.

Wise to check the file first: compare its SHA-256 with the value above. On a computer, sha256sum on Linux, shasum -a 256 on macOS, or certutil -hashfile FILE SHA256 on Windows.

Known limitations of this build

  • Tested on an Android emulator only. No physical device has been used at any point, so behaviour on a real handset is genuinely unknown.
  • Portrait only. There is no tablet or landscape layout.
  • Screen-reader behaviour — reading order, focus, live regions — has not been tested with TalkBack.
  • The game is English only.
  • Balance, pacing and difficulty are still being tuned and will change.
  • Saved progress is not guaranteed to survive future builds.
  • The build is debug-signed. It is not a store release and is not final.

Release notes

Playtest build — 10 September 2026

  • The complete Enamel Town visual pass: patients, cure icons, arena, map, clinic, Doctor's Guide, Shift Report and Sprout.
  • Sprout grows across five stages and keeps everything gained.
  • All eight places on the City Health Map have their own floor.
  • One persistent top bar; temporary information moved to overlay pills, capped at two at a time.
  • The illness legend became a pull-up Chart sheet, available during a shift.
  • Chickenpox and measles separated by a non-colour difference.
  • Light and dark appearance, plus four town themes.
  • A reduced-motion setting, honoured throughout.
  • Seasonal events fixed so they no longer run all year.
  • Two-player mode removed. The game is single player.

What happens to this page later

This is a permanent download surface, not a temporary playtest notice. The card above changes state as the project moves along; the page around it does not.

Private development

No public build. The page says what is being worked on and what comes next.

Public playtest

Where the project is today. A downloadable Android build, clearly labelled as in development.

Early access

A build you can rely on to keep your progress, still ahead of a full release.

Released

The primary action becomes Get it on Google Play, and the checksum table becomes a version history.

For parents and other grown-ups

Freeze or Sneeze is a fictional game about noticing signs and choosing cures. It is not medical advice and it does not teach diagnosis.

The Android build declares no permissions at all in its manifest, including no internet permission, so it cannot reach the network. It plays entirely offline. There are no accounts, no sign-in and no advertising, and the game asks for no personal information. Progress is stored on the device and can be erased from Settings.

This is a game, not medical advice. If you feel unwell, tell a grown-up. The game says the same, once as a gate on first run and permanently at the foot of the Doctor's Guide.
